Not sure I posted this but a while back we took Hannah (and consequently, everyone else) off milk. Her pure addiction to milk was puzzling. When I say addiction its because I cannot think of another word to adequately describe this little girls need for milk.
After talking with many professionals, reading many books and just praying, we switched to rice milk.
Suddenly her craving, begging and screaming for milk stopped. She gladly drank the 2 cups of milk a day without "asking" for more. Surprisingly in addition to her "addiction" dissipating her PICA almost completely disappeared, her eczema cleared up and she slept better! That was a big turning point for us!
But of course, as any mother would do, I second guessed it! I didn't want to take something so important from her without being absolutely sure.
So this past Thursday we took the plunge and gave her ice cream and a glass of milk. Within hours of that she was begging for milk again. We had the lay on the floor screaming, begging and pleading for milk, little girl that we previously had. Her skin immediately flared up and she didn't sleep......at all.......
Yesterday we went out and bought more rice milk!
The good news is that she seems to be doing fine with baked milk. She can have cooked cheese, muffin or bread (when I don't make my own) without having a big problem.
If everything clears back up and things go back to "normal" again. We will be calling the doctor to get a WIC authorization form, because that rice milk is expensive!
On a lateral note: Sophia is trialing wheat today in the only milk/soy free puffs that weren't sweet potato or banana flavored!
