We received some discouraging news this past week. Sophia's labs came back from the mayo clinic. The doctor hoped that her immune levels would rise, when in reality they dropped. It also showed she didn't make antibodies to some of the vaccinations she received.
Everyone keeps asking me, "Well what does that mean?"
Again, when I was listening to the nurse, my brain paused. I had to ask her to repeat and explain several times.
For one, she is immune compromised which we knew and we must go back to being extra extra careful. They want to repeat labs and add some more to try to figure this all out.
We also have to have her 9 month vaccinations, which she can't have while she is sick (but her weak immune system is having trouble fighting that off!) and 3 weeks after her shots she has to have her labs repeated. They are looking to see if her immune system is responding at all and see if she is making any antibodies to the shots she received 3 weeks prior. We will be making decisions about the upcoming holidays with the doctor to determine if we are able to take her out (because of flu season) and exactly what we are dealing with (because the doctor's won't tell us anything until they are "sure" as they don't want to alarm us..."
On a lighter note, she seems to be outgrowing her acid reflux! The past 2 weeks she has has 1/2 her prevacid medication and the past 3 (today makes 4) she has had NO prevacid! While she is still having zantac daily and mylanta cherry supreme (as needed) this is a great start!! She is even able to start adding foods back very very very slowly. We meet with the ped GI again in november to discuss that.
Priority 1 is getting her over this upper respiratory virus and making sure she doesn't get pneumonia, strep and/or ear infections. They said she would get those the easiest.
