Mostly a home schooling update

Mostly a home schooling update J

I sat down today to do my weekly lesson planning for homeschooling but am stopping to do some testing with him first. Phillip is doing great! I am actually worried he is doing TOO good. He breezes through all his workbook lessons in a matter of an hour. Since we started actual curriculum it seems as though a lot is review, which I know is good, but he does it so fast! So today I am going to give him some of the tests and then judge where to “jump” to (mostly in math)

A while ago we finished with Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. We are now going back through the book to focus on the phonics part. He is doing his reading flash cards like a pro. I am so happy to have him so interested in learning!

For science and history we are still doing abeka. He had a great time learning about voting, our President and actually went with me to vote to see how it was all done. He was proud! (and so was I)
For language arts and writing he has a workbook as well as printing paper. It works extremely well that when he gets in trouble he has to write sentences, because it gets extra writing in there! When he is in trouble, his penmanship is so much better. I even posted his latest on the fridge (again) because it was impressive!

I think the favorite is arts and crafts time, which doesn't happen every day because the cleanup is extensive! They get glue and paper pieces from the floor to the ceiling. I try to make that happen twice a week as it’s one of Hannah’s favorites too. They color every day and Hannah tries to color on the wall…every…day.

I went out and bought a Quest Bible. It gives PJ and I a part to read every day. I have incorporated that into the school time by using the correlating Quest of the day with the kids’ bible.

Hannah is enjoying colors and shapes. She can recognize her name but hasn’t gotten the idea to trace it yet.  She’s still so proud she can draw a circle! She is also proud that she learned how to use scissors correctly (even on her hair, which is another story). She sits quietly with her bible and “reads” while Phillip has workbook time. It’s so cute!

AAANNNNDDD since most of Sophia’s updates are medical I thought I would throw out there the fact that she is scooting everywhere (and mighty fast too!), pulling herself up and letting one hand go while cautiously holding on with the other and pushing her walking toy throughout the house. She isn't letting her FPIES or THI get in the way anything, and neither are we!
